Henri IV as a child
Bronze sculpture
Dimensions: H. 40 (cm.)
France, late 19th century
Remake of the full-length Henri de Navarre as a child, commissioned in 1824 by Louis XVIII and now in the Musée du Louvre. This model was extremely popular in the last quarter of the 19th century, when the Comte de Chambord was at the forefront of the political scene. It therefore bears witness to the royalist fervour that animated part of France throughout the 19th century.
Condition report: some minor alterations to the patina of the bronze.
