Large Icon Of Saint Nicholas, Greece 19th Century / Orthodox Church

Large and beautiful Greek icon of Saint Nicholas known as the "miracle worker", dating from the first half of the 19th century.
Due to its large dimensions, it is probably a work made for a church.
Saint Nicholas, dressed as a bishop, is represented in bust, blessing with his right hand and holding the Bible with the other. In the upper corners stand Christ and the Virgin Mary in the heavens.
This painting is delicately made with tempera (egg yolk-based paint) in rich and warm tones. The background is gilded with leaf and the saint's clothing is richly embellished with gold.
Good general state of conservation with a nice patina. Wear over time, cracks and small restorations, particularly on the edge.
