"Antonio Ortiz Echagüe : “young Jug Merchant”"
Antonio Ortiz Echagüe (1883-1942): “Young jug seller”, oil on canvas 60 x 40 cm, mounted in a recent gilded frame 76 x 57 cm. Very well done relining and restorations. A young girl in local costume patiently waits for the customer for his jugs and jugs. The Artist, one of the most important Spanish genre painters of the early 20th century, is present in numerous museums, two of which bear his name! A great traveler, he began studying at the age of 14 in Paris with Léon Bonnat, then made the “Journey to Italy”, an obligatory step in the training of great painters from all over Europe. Italy, the Netherlands, the United States, Morocco, France and Argentina were the source of numerous paintings which earned him an international reputation crowned by the Gold Medal at the Paris Salon in 1923.
