Franz Van Severdonck (1809-1889) “the White Stallion” Oil On Mahogany Panel

Exceptional living room painting by François (Franz) VAN SEVERDONCK, a great Belgian painter of the 19th century whose unique specialties are representations of farmyards and animated farmyard animals. This painting is an extremely rare piece for several reasons: on the one hand it is a superb mahogany panel, which is rare for such a size, on the other hand the artist has represented in the main plan a beautiful white horse surrounded chickens, who are, in most of his paintings, the main characters. It has its period gilded stucco frame of great beauty and in perfect condition. No restoration on the painting. The work is signed lower right, dated 1859 and located in Brussels on April 30 of the same year. Even rarer, a label on the back of the original panel certifies, by the artist himself, that he is the author of the work (photo attached). An undisputed master of representations of animals in rural areas, he made a career in Brussels and his works can be seen in many famous private collections as well as museums (Bucharest, Rouen, Sete, Brussels, etc.).
