New rare oil/canvas by Henri Perrain-Maxence representing the rocks of La Fileuse in Crozant around 1920/30, signed lower right + marked on the back "the needles of La Fileuse (Creuse)" Format of the canvas alone without frame 46x55cm or 57x66cm including frame After the equally rare canvas that I sold a few weeks ago "the mill of Folie in Crozant", here is a new work by Perrin Maxence, still made in Crozant, but this time the rocks of the Spinner, which are located not far from the ruins. It is therefore a magnificent composition with a Fauve tendency by Perrin Maxence who paints here a view of the Folie mill in Crozant, created during one of his stays in Creuse. His technique is very faithful to his way of painting, between synthetism and fauvism, with large powerful strokes, all in a lively and colorful palette where intense reds, deep blues, greens, ochres, yellow, purple etc. dominate. do not think of his colleague Georges Hanna Sabbagh, who followed almost the same path. Indeed, both first established in Brittany, they were influenced by their elders from the Pont-Aven school, Sérisier and Maurice Denis. Then like Sabbagh, this time under the influence of Guillaumin, he also decided to come to Creuse at the same time, between 1918 and 1930 and like Sabbagh finally, he chose to paint the same subjects, the Moulin de la Folie, the Sedelle, the Fileuse rocks, the new Crozant bridge...; about the latter, a large format 69x105cm work with a similar subject, has just recently been sold at Drouot on 01/31/2024 for the sum of €3,400 without costs, or almost €4,300 (see last photo). Otherwise Perrin Maxence painted in Brittany, but also superb still lifes. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, he also exhibited in 1931 at an exhibition dedicated to the painters of the Creuse organized by the Petit Parisien and the Excelsior. He is obviously listed among the painters of the Crozant school in the work of Christophe Rameix. Finally, be careful not to confuse it with its namesake Edgar Maxence, a Breton symbolist painter. Today the works of Perrin-Maxence are rather rare on the market. This canvas is in very good condition, I just point out 2 old and tiny reworks (see on the back).
