Spranger, Flemish painter, draftsman and engraver (Antwerp 1546 - Prague, 1611), is one of the main representatives of Northern Mannerism.
His painting The Dead Christ Supported by the Angels, oil on copper produced around 1587, measuring 33 x 26 cm, was initially a work of private devotion but it became famous when in 1587 the artist Hendrick Goltzius (1558 – Haarlem, 1617) copied it and that engravings of this work were widely distributed. The painting that we are offering is inspired by the engraving of Goltzius but given its formal and technical proximity to the original work of Spranger, it can be considered that the The artist was in direct contact with the author of the original work.
