Reproduction of one of the 20 plates engraved from 1783 to 1786 representing the pavilions with Western architecture, French gardens and ponds, designed and created by Giuseppe CASTIGLIONE for the Qianlong emperor. 51 x 88.2 cm.e Framed Giuseppe Castiglione, born July 19, 1688 in Milan (Italy) and died July 16, 1766 in Beijing (China), was an Italian Jesuit brother, missionary in China and painter to the imperial court. He was one of the favorite artists of the Emperors of the Qing dynasty. In 1716 he took the Chinese name Lang Shining (郎世宁/郎世寧, láng shìníng, “Man of the quiet world”). (source Wikipedia)
