Charming terracotta child bust from the beginning of the 20th century in the style of the 18th century.
This is a charming bust of a young boy wearing a ponytail wig The features are very finely rendered, the portrait is very realistic.
The artist has created a charming face and taken care of the clothes and the wig, the facial expression is superb. on the back the bust bears the inscription "portrait of Monsieur le Marquis de Lubersac, Pajou fecit 1772".
the "original" of Pajou is in the Portland museum, but is it not in reality one of the works of ours artist Fernand Cian?!
our bust would therefore be a beautiful old copy by Fernand Cian whose exact name is Fernando Ciancianaini born in Italy in Carrara in 1889 and died in Paris in 1954.
sculptor known for his terracottas and in particular his busts of As a child, he was a student of the sculptor Alexandre Falguière and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1907 to 1928.
In 1921 he obtained honorable mention. he is therefore famous for his busts of children in the spirit of the 18th century of good quality, sometimes signing them with his name or that of famous artists, backdating them.
the success is such that some of his works can be found in museums in France and abroad.
these pastiches are therefore of very good quality and can maintain the illusion of their age, for example the bust of the Duke de Lesdiguière as a child is in the Louvre.
our bust can easily be attributed to Cian, it is superb with a very beautiful patina, much more beautiful in reality, a charming terracotta.
