"Paris 1780, Cruet With The Coat Of Arms Of The Bishop Of Arras, Mgr. Lequette, Solid Silver"
Sumptuous Louis XVI period oil cruet in solid silver with Paris hallmarks for the year 1780 and makers mark of Francois Alexis Carron. It still has it's two period caps. Of exceptional quality and very heavy (900 grams) it is in an excellent state of conservation. It is engraved with the coat of arms of Monsignor Jean-Baptiste Joseph Lequette, son of a mulquinier, born June 23, 1811 in Bapaume and died June 13, 1882 in Arras (Pas-de-Calais) at the age of 70. He was the bishop of Arras, Boulogne and Saint-Omer from 1866 to 1882. The eighteenth Century carafes which garnish this oil cruet are not original and one of them has a glued handle.
