"Buddha In Gilded Wood, 47 Cm, Burma, 19th"
Harmonious representation of the historical Shakyamuni Buddha. A gilding, largely preserved, on an undercoat of brown lacquer, covers the wooden statue of the Buddha. He is represented here in his traditional posture, seated in padmasana, with his right hand holding the earth to witness his illumination. Serene expression, a stylized double lotus with an inscription in Burmese at its base (to be translated). At the back a cavity allowed a relic to be placed. Some minor cracks are visible in front on the base and on the right thigh. (see photos) Height: 47 cm, circa 19th century.
