"19th Century Mahogany Marine Writing Case."
Large marine or travel writing desk in solid mahogany, completed with brass reinforcements. In the center is a cartouche with the words “Lieutenant Général Villettes” (Lieutenant General Villettes). It opens to reveal two writing compartments made up of flaps covered with green felt; the first is kept closed by two small brass plates and the second by a lock (no key). Inside they are designed to receive mail. It is furnished with five compartments, the largest closes with a lid and a secret system allows you to discover small drawers. On the right side it opens with a drawer fitted with a retractable handle. As we can see in the photo, a stop allows it to be kept partly open. This beautiful English box is in very good condition, it closes with its original key. Mid-19th century period. W/D/H: 51 X 26 X 18cm W/D open: 51
