"Pair Of Vendée War Statues "
Pair of late 19th century plaster statuettes. Very fine details. Illustration of the wars from Vendée to ANGERS during the Terror. The 2 statues represent victims of the genocide organized by the Convention in the west of France between 1793 and 1794. One of the statues represents the nuns Mariane (what a sad irony for the Republic) and Odile shot on February 1, 1794; the other Marie Louise du Verdier de La Sorinière shot on February 10, 1794. These works come from the Saint Joseph workshop in Angers as indicated on the back of the statues' base. Good condition without missing or chipping. H 33cm - W 11cm - depth 7cm.
