"Victor Proluv E: Rare “mary And Helene” Print"
Victor Prouvé (1858-1943): “Marie and Hélène”, colored etching 50.5 x 22.8 cm on sheet 65 x 36 cm, mounted in a molded wooden frame 70 x 40 cm from La Maison d’Art Lorraine, annotated 6th Ep (for proof), signed and dated 1903. Thanks to the sum that constitutes the catalog of the 2008 exhibition in Nancy, I was able to find a lot of overlapping information, namely that it was published only 20 copies, distributed by La Maison d'Art Lorraine and we know from a photo that the models are his beloved wife Marie with one of their seven children, Marie. The prolific and protean Artist, as much a sculptor as a painter and engraver, working as well for the Applied Arts to which he provided models (binders, glassmakers including Gallé, decorators, etc.), was also director of the Nancy School of Fine Arts , training numerous and talented students, and leaving us an immense body of work, of modernity tempered by a solid craftsmanship which made him one of the best representatives of Art-Nouveau.
