An artist of international renown, Livio Seguso has been a pioneer since the 1970s in the use of glass as an expressive medium for art and continues his activity today with ever new proposals.

Born in 1930 in Murano, Seguso began his relationship with glass at an early age, fascinated by the inexhaustible enchantment of this wonderful material. In 1972 he took part in the 36th Venice Biennale, but his artistic maturation reached its peak towards the end of the decade, with the abandonment of all heritage of the Murano tradition to make room only for pure crystal, iridescent and ambiguous in its transparency.

His works can thus manifest themselves in forms of absolute purity, becoming 'images of light' that seem to adapt to thought, only to disappear in a series of dreamlike forms. Later, his research goes beyond the material used and expands to others, such as steel, stone, marble and granite, and finally wood. One hundred and fifty exhibitions in Italy and around the world, including solo and group exhibitions to date, including the 42nd Venice Art Biennale in 1986 and Arte Laguna in 1995, under the patronage of the Venice Biennale.

His most important solo exhibitions include the one at Ca' Pesaro - International Gallery of Modern Art in 1980, at Palazzo Ducale in Mantua in 1981, at Castello Sforzesco in Milan in 1982, at the National Gallery in Prague in 1984, at Casa dei Carraresi, Treviso in 2007, at the National Museum of History, Taipei, Taiwan in 2008, up to the major exhibition in 2014 at Ukai Museum in Hakone, Tokyo, where he presented previously unpublished sculptures, paintings and drawings.
