"Byzantine Reliquary Cross In Bronze - Nikolas Inscriptions - 8th - 10th Century"
Beautiful Byzantine reliquary cross in bronze On one side, it is decorated with ocelli, on the other with ocelli and an inscription in Greek → ΝΗΚΟΛΑΟC for Νικόλαος with a ligature ΛΑ. The cross must have contained relics of a Nicholas. Nicholas of Myra? or perhaps Nicholas the Studite, a monk in Constantinople at the beginning of the 8th century. Beautiful document. Difficult to date precisely, between the 8th and 10th centuries. 10x5cm
