Very beautiful patina of use for this canoe prow in the shape of a crocodile head collected in the Iatmul area in Papua New Guinea. Today, the canoe remains the most common means of transport in the Sepik River valley. Most of these canoes used in the lower and middle Sepik regions have a sculpted bow representing the head of a crocodile, an animal feared and revered. Leather-look wood with traces of use.
