Charming candlestick in gilded and patinated bronze signed Ferville – Suan. It features a cherub carrying an amphora forming a candle holder in finely chiseled gilded bronze. The chubby angel is winged and wears a blindfold. It is an allegory of the famous expression: “love is blind”. On the terrace, a beautiful dove, symbol of love and peace, takes flight. Charles Georges Ferville-Suan is a French sculptor born in Le Mans (Sarthe) in 1847 and died in the same city in 1925. He is the son of the painter Charles Suan. He studied at the Paris School of Fine Arts in the studio of sculptor François Jouffroy. He debuted at the Paris Salon in 1872 with medallions and statuettes and obtained an honorable mention.
