"“taconnaz Glacier, Chamonix Mont-blanc” Clovis Terraire"
Clovis TERRAIRE was born in Marseille in 1858. He died in 1931. He settled in Lyon in 1879 and simultaneously pursued his career as a painter and cellist at the Lyon Opera. He exhibited in Lyon and at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris in 1887. He owes his success to the numerous herds of cows which enliven his paintings. It was in Dauphiné, Savoie and Haute-Savoie that he most often set up his easel. Clovis Terraire appears in “Bénézit” as well as in the book “La Peinture Lyonnaise au 19ème” by Elisabeth Hardouin-Fugier and Etienne Grafe. The painting is highlighted by a beautiful 1920 frame in weathered wood decorated with arabesques. The dimensions with the frame are: 46 cm x 53.5 cm.
