Covered sugar bowl
Painted hard porcelain enhanced with gilding
Dimensions: D. 10,5 ; H. 20 (cm.)
Paris, circa 1810-1819
A rare tripod sugar bowl resting on zoomorphic feet. Decorated with a gilded foliate frieze separating the parts with a lilac background. This piece comes from a monogrammed service whose cups are all signed. This shaped piece rarely bears the vignette mark, but it is a model specific to Dagoty, see DAGOTY à Paris - La Manufacture de porcelaine de l'Impératrice - Par Régine Plinval de Guillebon" p. 32, n° 10 - page 74, n° 53.
The Dagoty Manufactory
Founded by Pierre-Louis Dagoty and his brothers in 1798, this is a perfect example of the golden age of hard porcelain in Paris. Their work is recognisable by its use of "thick gold" and sumptuous painted decorations, often combined with areas left blank. Their success enabled them to become Manufacture de l'Impératrice from 1804.
Condition report :
