"Khyber Cutlass Known As “salawar Yatagan”"
This Khyber cutlass is also called "Salawar Yatagan". It is a traditional weapon of the Afghans, originating from the Khyber pass, the pass which connects India and Afghanistan. It dates from the 19th century.
BLADE: This is the traditional Afghan blade, with a single edge, which is in a straight line to the tip. The back of the blade has the "T" shaped section characteristic of weapons from this region. This is quality blacksmithing work.
Length of the blade: 50 cm, width near the handle = 5 cm, thickness at the back 8.5 mm
HANDLE: It is made up of two bone plates riveted to the tang of the blade. The junction with the start of the blade is protected by a brass part
. At the end of the handle, the tang ends with the location of the small ring typical of Afghan weapons.
SCABBARD : It is made of wood covered with sewn leather. As with the majority of weapons in the region, the hilt is almost completely hidden by the scabbard when the weapon is retracted.
At the end of the scabbard, long chiseled brass bolt.
It is a beautiful original weapon, in good condition, it is an essential element of any collection of oriental weapons.
