Jean Burkhalter, born in 1895 in La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, is a Swiss painter and decorator known for his landscapes and rural scenes imbued with tranquility. His artistic training began at the La Chaux-de-Fonds Art School, an institution renowned for its rigorous teaching and its emphasis on applied arts. Training and Beginnings: La Chaux-de-Fonds Art School: Burkhalter studied there from an early age, developing a solid foundation in drawing and painting techniques. Académie Julian, Paris: To complete his training, he joined the Académie Julian in Paris, where he immersed himself in the Parisian artistic avant-garde and refined his style under the guidance of influential masters of the time. Influences and Artistic Entourage: Burkhalter surrounded himself with notable artists such as Fernand Léger and André Lhote, whose influence is reflected in his mastery of shapes and colors. His friendship with Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris, better known as name of Le Corbusier, also from La Chaux-de-Fonds, encouraged him to integrate elements of architecture and design into his works.
