G. Jacob, Pair Of Armchairs, Directoire Period flag

Object description :

"G. Jacob, Pair Of Armchairs, Directoire Period"
Rare pair of armchairs in mahogany and mahogany veneer, molded and carved, the flat frame backs, the armrests decorated with geometric patterns and palmettes, the consoles in arched and fluted sheaths in the extension of the front saber legs, the rear legs also in saber (small accidents and usual restorations).
Both stamped Georges Jacob, master in Paris in 1765.
Directoire period.
Good condition.
An armchair with the same general silhouette but with an escutcheon backrest and sculpted lion heads at the end of the armrests was the subject of a sale at Ader-Picard-Tajan (December 11, 1998, lot 93, later returned to sale at Sotheby's). With this same silhouette, an office armchair, notably featuring very similar armrests, consoles and legs, went on sale at Sotheby's on November 10, 2009 ("Important French Furniture and Sculpture", lot 256).
