"Duccomun Girod Music Box With Large Diameter Cylinder"
Very early large cylinder music box (Ca 1838) The mechanism has a setting of 2 per revolution, but plays 1 melody in 2 parts on the first revolution, giving 7 melodies in total. The flat brass plate is signed at the top left, just next to the comb, "Ducommun Girod". The comb has fine, slender teeth and has a very nice sound. Some screws have undergone heat treatment and are blue in color, the mechanism is attached to the case by 4 blued screws (2 at the rear and 2 at the front). The case is of the old type with a flap on the left, covering the 3 control levers. The case is veneered with rosewood on all sides and features fine symmetrical marquetry on the top of the lid. There are traces of the original instruction paper.
