"Cipriani - Bartolozzi, 2 Engravings, 18th/19th Century"
Two engravings framed in the style of sanguine (red chalk): one of them represents 4 angels and the other a scene from the Old Testament, Lot and his daughters.All of them are after a drawing by Giovanni Battista Cipriani (1727-1785) and engraved by the Bartolozzi workshop
There are the words: "GB Cipriani inv", "London Pubd as the Act directs Jany 1rt 1796 by G Bartolozzi" and "F Bartolozzi scul"
They have stains , folds and a small hole (angels)
GB Cipriani is an Italian painter and engraver (Florence 1727- Hammersmith UK 1785): he left very early for England where he spent his entire career. He painted part of the ceiling of Buckingham Palace and created works for Sommerset House and the Royal Academy.
Francesco Bartolozzi is an Italian engraver (Florence 1727 - Lisbon 1815) trained in Venice, he quickly settled in London and became the official engraver of King George III. He meets Cipriani and will engrave most of his works.
