Bust Of Madame Récamier 19th flag

Object description :

"Bust Of Madame Récamier 19th "
Cast iron bust representing Madame Récamier.
19th

Madame Récamier is the home of a Lyon notary promoted to advisor to Louis XVI. Real name Jeanne Bernard (who called herself Juliette) married in 1793, at the age of fifteen, the banker Jacques-Rosé Récamier, whose fortune was due to revolutionary seizures and the Directory's gambling dens.

If Jacques Louis David and François Gérard were able to capture his features in painting, his most famous sculpted portrait is that produced by Joseph Chinard, his compatriot from Lyon, also a friend of the family. This was a considerable success: her model herself distributed replicas and casts of it to those close to her, before it was reproduced in all materials and at all scales.
