Felipe MASO DE FALP Barcelona, 1851 – Pau, 1929 Oil on canvas 28 x 16.5cm (32 x 21cm) Signed lower right and located “F. Maso / Sitges” Felip Maso de Falp is a Catalan painter. He studied law and architecture in Madrid before going to live in France from 1872 to 1885 where he was a student of the painter Léon Bonnat. First history painter Felipe Maso presented A Procession of Saint-Barthélemy (1884, Maricel Museum) at the Paris Salon of 1884 which won an award and is considered a founding work of the luminist school of Sitges. Married to a Russian princess in 1889, he lived in the south between Sitges, San Remo, Monte Carlo and Lourdes. Maso's works are present at the Maricel Museum in Sitges, at the library of the Víctor Balaguer Museum in Vilanova i la Geltrú, at the Empordà Museum in Figueres, as well as at the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) and at Madrid.
