Paul Coze (1903-1974) Woman with Elephant Oil on canvas 81 x 65 cm Signed lower right 4000 euros Paul Coze was born in Beirut (Lebanon) in 1903 to a French engineer father and a Russian born mother of royal blood. Painter, ethnologist, illustrator and writer, he also participated in the founding of the Scouts de France. During the 1920s, he specialized in Native American culture. He studied at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. Several encounters with the Amerindian world led Paul Coze to become a real expert in this field (he worked as an ethnologist for the Ethnography museum at Trocadéro). The artist died in Phoenix (Arizona). On the back of the canvas, presence of the label of the artist's studio: "50 rue Saint Georges" (Paris 9th)
