He also practices for Jules Dalou, Antonin Mercié and Auguste Rodin. In 1901, he was appointed professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He began at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1873. He won a third class medal in 1879, a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889, a second class medal in 1898, a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition from 1900. He created numerous models of medals, portraits and animal subjects in which he specialized. He excelled in the naturalistic representation of animals in small bas-reliefs and drew his inspiration from the Fables of La Fontaine. Posterity, however, will also remember the name of Victor Peter, as one of the artists who best honored the art of the medal, where he had made a place of his own and certainly of the forefront. He is the author of a series of medallion portraits of contemporary artists, including Alexandre Falguière, Agathon Léonard, Léon Lhermitte, Jules Dalou, Auguste Rodin, Pierre Puvis de Chavanne and Jean-Jacques Henner.
