Object description :

"Auguste Pelabon (1863-1932) Sunrise On Cap Brun In Toulon In 1895"
The atmosphere, the colors and the soothing light of a sunrise on a Provençal shore at the end of the 19th century. A poetic atmosphere, muted and warm tones, two boats, one with a lateen sail and another from which fishermen pull their nets in perfect harmony with nature resplendent with beauty. A magnificent oil on canvas by the Toulon painter Auguste Pélabon. The work in its very good original condition (a light cleaning may be considered) is offered in a pretty Louis XIV style frame which measures 58 cm by 74 cm and 43 cm by 61 cm for the canvas alone. It is signed and dated (18)95 lower right.

Student of Pierre Letuaire then of William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1885 to 1891. At the Museum of Fine Arts in Toulon, “the hollow of Saint-Georges” near Toulon, “the entrance to the port of Toulon”. He also frequented regional exhibitions: 3rd medal in Aix en Provence in 1896, we met him again in Toulon in 1902 (Chemin du Cap Brun, Faciles de matin, and Sur la Côte in Toulon) and in Hyères in 1923 (Coucher de Sun). The Toulon Museum of Fine Arts preserves, among others, the portraits of Pierre Letuaire, the Composer Hippolyte Duprat (Depot of the Palais de Justice), the mayor Prosper Ferraro as well as the Grandfather and his Little Daughter. The Sanary Town Hall, for its part, acquired the Port of Sanary (1891) at auction in February 2006.
