Object description :

"Maison Chéret, Art Deco Chalice In Gilded Sterling Silver And Red Jasper, Paris Circa 1950"
Sumptuous Art Deco mass chalice in gilded sterling silver of the highest alloy (950%). It is set with a polished red jasper knot of a deep red, both a symbol of the shed blood of Christ and the color of the Holy Spirit. It still has its original paten set with three red jasper cabochons. Both items are contained in a small travel box. The chalice is hallmarked in the cup and in the foot as well as on its very beautiful paten with the French guarantee for 950% silver known as "the head of Minerva", and with the master goldsmith hallmark of Maurice Chéret. In 1923, Maurice Chéret took over the family business Cabaret, created in 1830 in the Parisian district of Saint-Sulpice, and founded Maison Chéret, which then became an essential place to find rare liturgical works. Over the years, the “Chéret” style has taken shape: refined, contemporary. It further asserted itself when the architect Jean Chéret succeeded his father and upon his death, his wife Claude Chéret took over the reins of the House to make it shine for another 40 years. A century later, Maison Chéret still exists and still sells magnificent liturgical objects.
