"Jansenist" Christ in finely carved boxwood, after a model of Christ created by Peter Paul Rubens in the 1610s then widely spread through engraving (see last photo, the engraving by Paulus Pontus after Rubens published in 1631). The very gentle treatment of the face and body is typical of Flemish ivory and boxwood sculptors from the end of the 17th century.
Total height: 27.4 cm
Head-toe height: 22.5 cm
To report: small losses at the ends of the fingers, otherwise very good condition.
