"Monk In Bronze.china Ming Dynasty 17th Century Or Earlier."
Lost wax cast bronze monk. The character is represented standing with his hands folded in prayer. The cast iron is coarse, it has numerous defects and holes (circled in the photo), the one in the head was filled. There remain traces of gilding on lacquer, the sculpture must have been entirely lacquered, gilded or polychrome, which explains the neglect of finishing, the defects having been entirely covered. It is a small but powerful sculpture that has a strong presence. The front of the base of the base was broken, the addition of a foot balances the statue. Chinese work from the 17th century or before.Very beautifull old patina. Height: 227mm.
