Early 19th century - 1828 France - Auvergne Beautiful professional snuffbox in engraved horn and brass, hand engraved. Fine work of Auvergne folk art in beautiful condition. The cover scene represents a gendarmerie officer wearing a cocked hat on his horse, next to him two trees of life topped with birds. On the back of the snuff box is the date: 1828 Note: the black dot on the side of the lid is not a stain, but the patina of the first layer of horn created by the pulp of the thumb.
