Table With Works In End Wood Marquetry, Paris, Louis XV Period

Work table in end-grain marquetry, Paris, Louis XV period. Interesting and delightful piece of furniture is an elegant Parisian work from the Louis to be taken over by the greatest Parisian cabinetmakers. This “flying” piece of furniture is curved on all its sides with the exception of the rear side which remains straight, we also note that if the side and front crosspieces are curved, the rear side remains straight. This piece of furniture rests on 4 curved legs joined together by a crotch shelf, the belt opens laterally with a drawer with a compartment to place the inkwells, indicating to us that this piece of furniture was intended for several purposes, like many small pieces of furniture extra created in the 18th century, the top of the furniture opens with a flap revealing 4 lockers. Mounted on an oak frame, this small living room table is covered with marquetry panels with a branch pattern with stylized leaves and flowers made from end grain wood on a rosewood background, these decorations are made on all sides of the furniture with boxwood and amaranth net frames we find the same marquetry on the top and the crotch shelf but this time surrounded by violet wood. We also note that the rear side of the piece of furniture which has remained straight as we indicated before, presents a marquetry decoration in a strictly rectangular cartridge, thus maintaining a logic in the production. We note the care taken in the manufacturing of this piece of furniture from beautiful cabinetmaking, as well as the luxurious side with the interior compartments on the top entirely veneered with rosewood. The bronze ornamentation is discreet and original, it consists of 4 slippers (formerly equipped with casters), a pull button for the drawer as well as a lock entry, these different elements are gold. The lock is from the period, it works and is fitted with a key with an 18th century carved head. Furniture restored and in very good condition. Dimensions: Height: 75 cm Width: 45 cm Depth: 32 cm
