"Precious Turned Lignum Vitae Egg Cups Treen, 18th Century"
Rare to find, two egg cups from dark Gaïac wood veined of red ocher, fruit of the work of an inspired turner, using a foot lathe, our finger can feel the slight jolts of this tool. The tallest and most elegant, neat like a chess piece, with a luxury of threads, blunt rings, a pretty baluster and this fine, flared shape…. Due to this thin edge, there is a slight crack, barely visible. (Red Arrow). Maybe it's not an egg cup, but a prestigious scholar piece?
The second, very pretty, is more classic, with reinforced upper border. We see that it is from the same hand.
18th century work, and probably British.
