"Léon Giordano Di Palma (1886-?) Fishermen In The Port Of Cassis"
Color, cheerfulness and picturesqueness for this work by the Official Painter of the Ministry of Colonies Léon Giordano di Palma. The work in very good condition is made in oil on wooden panel, it is offered in a very beautiful gilded and molded 19th century frame which measures 57 cm by 70 cm and 33 cm by 46 cm for the painting alone. It represents fishermen busy in their boat in the port of Cassis, a few meters from the old lighthouse which was destroyed by the Germans in 1944. An anecdotal, decorative and pleasant work signed lower left.

A student of Marius Guindon, he exhibited in various Parisian salons: at the French Artists, at the Indépendants from 1922 to 1937, at the Société Coloniale des Artistes Français… Official Painter of the Ministry of the Colonies, he made several stays in the south of France “Mirror birds, in Martigues Watercolor, 1922” and abroad: Italy, “the Rialto bridge, in Venice, 1931”; “Rio, in Venice, 1933”, as well as in Greece, Turkey, in Casablanca in Africa, 1924: “rue de Rabat, 1928”, some of his works can be found at the Museum of Modern Art of the city of Paris , “the Old Port of Marseille”; “the Saint-Jean canal in Marseille”; “rue de la loge in Marseille”, and at the Maritime Museum in Paris, “the Pothuant in the harbor of Toulon”.
