Son of the famous painter Agostino Mitelli (Bologna 1609 - Madrid 1660), he was himself a painter, but above all one of the most prolific engravers of the 17th century. He reproduced in oil masterpieces by Carracci, Guercino and other illustrious Bolognese painters. He creates in engraving an extraordinary quantity of subjects of all kinds: scenes of daily life, sacred and profane allegories, political satires, proverbs, board games. Its popular scenes are valuable from an ethnographic point of view; among them, we remember the thirty-three engravings on popular games.
His engravings were often accompanied by short commentaries or poems in 17th and 18th century Italian and sometimes in the Bolognese dialect. the two engravings with grotesque faces are signed 17th century lower right
