Fireplace Screen With Aubusson Tapestry flag

Object description :

" Fireplace Screen With Aubusson Tapestry"
-Louis XV style fireplace screen, in lacquered beech, with a stretched Aubusson tapestry from the 18th century in its center. The wood is decorated with delicate moldings with plant motifs of flowers and foliage echoing the ornaments surrounding the tapestry stretched in the center. The latter, woven in Aubusson in the 18th century, takes up a widely appreciated theme of the time, that of the Fables of Jean de La Fontaine.
This is the fable of “The Wolf and the Lamb”. The tapestry woven for a fireplace screen was removed from its original support to be reused in these Louis XV style woods, which explains the reweaving carried out around it to correspond to the new dimensions of the support.
