"Bronzes By Clessinger/barbedienne"
Auguste Clésinger (Jean-Baptiste Auguste Clésinger born 1883) was a prominent French sculptor and painter of the 19th century. He created many large monumental pieces in marble and bronze. A beautiful pair of well detailed quality bronzes, one signed by the artist, "J.Clesinger, 1862, Rome" and the two stamped "Barbedienne Fondeur" also with the "Collas Reduction" pastouille. One in the form of a female Bacchante or disciple of Bacchus and the other with cloistered feet, a satyr, faun or Pan holding his pipes. These pieces appear in the Barbedienne catalog of 1886 entitled "Bacchante and Satrye" (copy available). Height is 6 1/2 inches. The composition as with the eponymous marble group at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
