Object description :

"Bacchanal - Abduction Of Amphitrite, Framed Engravings, 18th Century"
Two framed engravings inspired by mythology:
*Bacchanal: musicians and dancers surrounding the drunken Silenus descended from his donkey for a party. Originally a religious festival linked to the Dionysian mysteries (in honor of the god Bacchus/Dyonisos, god of wine and the vine)
*Abduction of Amphitrite: nymph goddess and female personification of the sea, Amphitrite initially refused to married Neptune, and hid to escape his pursuit. But a dolphin found her and persuaded her to grant the god's request (for his reward, he was placed among the stars, the constellation of the dolphin).
