Object description :

"Pair Of Bronze Candlesticks - Deer Candlesticks, Zoomorphic - High Period - Northern Europe"
End of the 18th century (In the taste of the Haute Epoque) Northern Europe Sublime pair of bronze zoomorphic candlesticks representing a couple of Deer or Reindeer. Completely idealized and somewhat naive aesthetic but full of charm. The rectilinear shapes and anatomical elongation of the body demonstrate its functional design as a candle base. Each of the animals that make up this set has a structure on its back topped with a cylindrical bowl in which a candle can be placed. The ornamental sense of this set indicates that these pieces were intended for a house with resources and demonstrated a comfortable situation. Similar models are given from several distinct periods, but you can see the original models from the beginning of the 13th century: Book: Decorative art Middle Ages and Renaissance, Museum Boysman-van Beuningen, Rotterdam, 1994, p 88 and 89. Note: A spool was cut but put back, almost invisible once the candle holders are in place, does not affect the charm of its candle holders Dimensions: Total height: 12 cm ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE BY DHL EXPRESS ONLY!
