André Hallet, 1890-1959, Belgian post-impressionist painter of landscapes, animated scenes and portraits. Africanist. After initial training in the Workshop of Richard Heintz, he was a student of Adrien de Witte at the Academy of Liège, his hometown. He began at the Salon de Liège in 1917. He worked in Bruges and settled in Louvain in 1920. A great traveler, he painted in the South of France and in Italy. He made a first trip to the Belgian Congo in 1934 where he reached maturity with a sunny and colorful palette. He settled permanently in Congo, on the shores of Lake Kivu in 1947. He died suddenly in Rwanda, palette in hand. Works in the Museums of Brussels, Liège, Louvain, Tournai, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, Metz, Paris (Louvre Museum), Belgrade, Kaunas, Ottawa and New York. Artist listed in Bénézit (with example of signature), Arto and Piron, listed Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
This hardboard panel is in good condition and has visible traces of humidity at the bottom.
The paint, never cleaned, not dirty, is in very good original condition, neither repainted nor repaired of any kind.
