Japanese merchant's chest of drawers, Choba Dansu, Japan, Meiji period, 19th century. Rare Japanese merchant's chest/dresser (choba-dansu) in three-color Keyaki. It is composed of drawers and sliding doors opening onto a shelf and drawers. This shape and this combination of colors are not common and almost give it an art deco look. Choba-dansu chests were used by merchants on the choba (raised platform of a store) to store daifukucho (account books) and related trading materials. Good condition. Restored by our workshop. Meiji period. Height 91 cm L / W 122 x 43cm
