Etching on Japan paper engraved by Jules Jacquet (1841-1913) an important French burin engraver and etcher, after the ceiling of the town hall of Paris painted in 1894 by Léon Bonnat (1833-1922 ). Lèon Bonnat was a famous academic painter who took part to the decoration of the Panthéon, and painted a ceiling of the Salon des Arts de l'Hotel de Ville de Paris, called The Triumph of Art, from which is inspired our engraving.
Bonnat was head of the painting workshop in the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris from 1888 to 1905. He became Director of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1905 until his death.
