“The women of rural North African societies, both potters and weavers, are custodians of a culture and know-how passed down from generation to generation, but which today tends to be lost with the rural exodus and the economic development. The geometric patterns that adorn the pottery - which we find on textiles and women's tattoos - carry a symbolic meaning whose origins date back to the Neolithic era. The purity of forms, the simplicity and spontaneity of the decorations give these objects a particular charm. They demonstrate a remarkable harmony between function, form and decoration. Excerpt from the book published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition "Ideqqi: Art of Berber Women" at the Branly Museum. »
