Charming and luminous oil on panel by Willem Abraham Wassenaar (1873-1965) representing a farm and its vegetable garden. Willem Abraham Wassenaar is a Dutch painter, his style is post-impressionism. No defects. Signed and dated “Wassenaar 1955” lower right in green. Located “van der woort” in red, bottom right too.

Wassenaar was a student of Jan Toorop (1858-1928), symbolist painter and supporter of art nouveau. A member of the Vereniging van Beeldende Kunstenaars de Brug in Amsterdam, he lived in Katwijk and often worked in today's Randstad. He opted for an artistic career at the age of 27, after a career as a worker in tulip fields and a police officer. Jan Troop, discovering the talent of this young painter, began to advise him and support him financially. In 1905, the painter presented his first exhibition at the Oldenzeel art hall in Rotterdam.
