"Paul Sebilleau : “landscape At The Church”"
Paul Sébilleau (1847-1907): “Landscape at the church”, oil on canvas 35 x 60 cm mounted in a modern gilded frame 40 x 65 cm. Signed and dated indiscriminately lower right 1875 or 1895. As removed from the wall: fouling of the varnish and cracks. In a ghostly atmosphere of late autumn with bare trees and red hues, the silhouette of a church emerges from the fog... Student of Louis-Austin Auguin and Hippolyte Pradelles, regular exhibitor at the Salon des Artistes Français and that of Fine Arts from Bordeaux, this charming Bordeaux artist gave us numerous landscapes of the South-West, from the Gironde to the Dordogne and from the Landes to the Charentes which earned him medals and prizes.
