This is a sketch for the portrait of Vice-Admiral Jacques Bergeret (1771-1857) which is at the Versailles Castle (218 x 142 cm, inv. MV4822, MI 201) and which was commissioned by Napoleon III for the Versailles historical Museum. There are many differences between the final painting (see last photo) and our sketch.
