******************************************

Exceptional large DISH forged in pewter called “cardinal style” with an unusually very wide wing. It is finely engraved with intricate crowned alliance coats of arms.
In the center of the back, trace of maker's mark deliberately bruised probably during the revolutionary era when it was prudent to conceal or destroy royal symbols, such as crown, lilies, etc.
Diameter: 43 cm.
PIEMONT (TURIN?), Second half of the 17th century

In very good condition
The coat of arms are those of the famous Italian and Austrian families Gherardini and Manincor (also spelled: Manincore, Manincorne, Manincard, or even Manencore), cited since the 12th century .
Note that it is very rare to be able to identify coats of arms engraved on metal when the enamels are not all specified according to the codes of heraldry, which is not the case here where the furniture and enamels are perfectly legible.
This identification was possible thanks to internet searches.
