FRANCESCO CASANOVA, BROTHER OF THE FAMOUS "LATIN LOVER" GIACOMO CASANOVA, IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ARTISTS ACTIVE IN VENICE IN THE 18TH CENTURY. AS A PUPIL OF FRANCESCO GUARDI, HE SPECIALIZED IN THE GENRE OF BATTLES. AFTER A PERIOD SPENT IN THE WORKSHOP OF ANTONIO JOLI HE DECIDEDLY CHANGED PICTORIAL GENRE AND ENTERED THE WORKSHOP OF A "BATTALLIST" PAINTER: FRANCESCO SIMONINI TO FINISH HIS APPRENTICESHIP IN PARIS IN 1758 IN THE FAMOUS WORKSHOP OF CHARLES PARROCEL. IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 18TH CENTURY WE WITNESS HIS CONSECRATION AS A GREAT ARTIST AND HE BEGAN TO RECEIVE COMMISSIONS FROM VARIOUS EUROPEAN PRINCES AND MONARCHS.
